Moi University Bans Students From Wearing Crocs, Transparent Clothes And All Plastic Shoes
Moi University has banned students from wearing crocs, mini-skirts, tumbo cats and skin-tight trousers around its premises in a move to promote decency and the production of well-groomed academicians. In a memo dated 6th January 2024, the Dean of Students Dr. Alice Mutai listed ripped jeans, cropped blouses or shirts, low-cut tops, transparent dresses and clothing that reveals bra straps as indecent.
Further, she mentioned clothing with obscene wordings, sagging trousers among men and chest-revealing fashion attires as indecent attires prohibited by the Eldoret-based higher learning institution.

” I wish to bring to your attention Article 3.1.1 a, c, d and e of the Rules and Regulations Governing the Conduct & Discipline of Students,” Dr. Mutai noted.
“The Students are expected to dress decently in modest and appropriate attire. However, we have observed and noted with concern the indecent” she added.
Further, she told students to heed to the Institution’s rules and regulations governing the student body to avoid crossing red lines with the administration over indecent dress codes around the campus.

“All students should desist from inappropriate dressing while at the University as this may result in disciplinary action. This is therefore to request all Students to dress decently and Staff are requested not to serve students who are dressed indecently,” she added.
Moi University joins The University of Eldoret and Kenya Methodist University in banning indecent dress codes exhibited by students around their learning environments.
Early 2023, The University of Eldoret banned students from wearing Marvins, caps, crocs, transparent dresses, t-shirts and ripped shorts or trousers around campus in what it termed indecent dress code.

Now three institutions have made bold moves to advocate for good grooming among varsity students as a way of reviving modesty and decency both in lecture halls and outside campus premises.
