It is all gloves off for Music Copyrights Society Of Kenya(MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua and the Genge Godfather Nonini as they try to fight for the rights of Kenyan artists.

The battle which started online and rolled over to the corridors of justice was sparked by the artiste after he shared a document showing how MCSK was misappropriating funds meant for artists’ royalties.

In a tweet sighted by Mideyah Digital, he pointed out how MCSK has been using millions of shillings in salaries and day-to-day operations, affecting musicians’ royalties negatively while at it.

According to the document shared by Nonini, MCSK had estimated to collect KSh 109,030,384 for the year 2023.

However, the body marked salaries for its employees at KSH 57,010, 467 and dedicated a mere KSh 10,500,000 for distribution among artists.

This did not settle down well with Nonini who took to Twitter and called out Ezekiel Mutua and MCSK for the misappropriation of artists’ funds.

“You see the exact problem that is affecting the Kenyan Music Industry. These are the figures

budgeted Artists’ monies for the year that just ended in 2023. This is a problem in all CMOs administration and directors benefit more than anyone.” Nonini tweeted.

The music copyright body boss was not pleased by Nonini’s post and duly hit back with a fierce social media post directed at Nonini.

Instead of addressing the elephant in the room, Mutua chose to hit the rapper below the belt by calling him all manners of names, including a fugitive of the law.

Through his response, he accused the US-based Kenyan rapper of embezzling funds from MPAKE and PRISK, where he sat as a board member.

Mutua reiterated police were on Nonini’s trail and would soon bring him to book for stealing from the aforementioned CMOs.

“There’s this fugitive

who embezzled musicians’ money when he was a director of MUPAKE & PRISK. We reported him and his gang to the police last week and we are pursuing their prosecution. Now I hear he’s circulating a FAKE document on social media purporting its official account of MCSK but the document is lifted from the MUPAKE accounts of 2017-2019 and doctored to serve the fertile imagination. This is how they used to steal money from artists, but we will ensure that they face the law. Boss, you can run but you can’t hide. If the document is genuine take it to the DCI office and record a statement.” Mutua wrote.

In his usual demeanour, Genge Godfather sought the services of his legal team which slapped the MCSK CEO with a demand letter.

The Keroro hitmaker posted the demand letters from his lawyer to the board’s boss, followed by the caption;

“Oya bradhe? Uko na barua hapo kwa office yako #NeedThatByMonday Kama hujaipata ndio hio! Check mate your move now! #Nonini #Mgenge2ru #McskNiWezi,”

It should be noted that Nonini has for the longest time been fighting MCSK and other CMOs and calling them out for stealing money collected and meant for artists’ royalties.
