With Football being the popular sport activity in the country, from local to the national level for being embraced by many as their favourite sport. Football fans flock different stadiums across the country to cheer up their favourite clubs when playing be it in the local leagues or national league.

In Kenya, we have a total of 18 clubs participating in the Kenya Premier League all competing the FKFPL title. Though our Kenyan league is not advanced like the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga, most of the clubs in FKFPL struggles to pay their managers, staffs and players their salaries and allowances. In this article we will be looking at the list of the richest clubs in Kenya, with most successful clubs are generally the richest as they easily attract more sponsors.

5. Bandari FC

The Mombasa based club is fully sponsored by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) which injects a lot of money to fund the club. The Dockers enjoys the privilege of being the only Coastal club that participates in Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).

Bandari is one of the Kenya Premier League clubs that offers good contracts to their players and staffs making them one the of richest clubs in Kenya. They are currently in position 3 with 33 points in the current season after 20 matches.

4. Kenya Commercial Bank SC (KCB)

KCB Sports Club is nicknamed as ‘Sidwedwe’ is one of the richest clubs in Kenya Premier League with the club being sponsored by one of the biggest banks in the country KCB Bank.

The bankers were relegated in 2015 before returning to the league in 2018 where they have never been relegated again finishing in top ranks as they just fell short in 2020/21 season to clinch the KPL title after they finished second with Tusker FC being crowned as the champions after the league was suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic. Kenya Commercial Bank also owns rugby, volleyball and basketball teams, all of which play in their respective men’s top-flight leagues of Kenya.

 3. AFC Leopards SC

The club is popularly known as ‘Ingwe’ from the Leopards in their original name. Abaluhya Football Club is one of the oldest and third most successful clubs in Kenya which boasts a huge fanbase across the country not only in the Western part of Kenya. The 12-time Kenya Premier League champions have witnessed a lot of success off and on the pitch with their rich history securing them biggest sponsorship deals.

Despite them struggling to get good results, AFC Leopards got a sponsorship deal with one of the betting firms in Kenya Betika. AFC Leopards makes the list of the richest clubs in Kenya for their nature to pull biggest sponsors to partner with them.

2. Tusker FC

It is the second successful club in Kenya after winning KPL titles thirteen times. The club which hosts most of his home matches at Ruaraka Grounds enjoys full sponsorship by the East Africa Breweries company which produces Tusker a well-known beer brand by the company hence its name. The club offers one of the best contracts to their staffs and players as their owners have financial masculinity making them one of the richest clubs in the country.

1. Gor Mahia FC

The club is commonly referred to as the K’Ogalo. It is the most successful club in Kenya’s Football history winning the Kenya Premier League titles a record 20 times. Due to their rich history inside East Africa and Africa as whole they attracted many sponsors who have partnered with them to sponsor club activities.

The club also enjoys huge fanbase across the country with the club getting financial assistance from Gor Mahia Fans Foundation. It also offfers best contracts to their players who earns handsomely every month together with better bonuses for the win s and draws. They recently awarded a token of Ksh. 650, 000 by Kenyan Dancehall artist KRG The Don after losing their first match of the season as consolation.
