The Kenyan legendary defensive midfielder hanged his boots in 2018. Mariga who played for giant clubs in Europe becoming the first Kenyan and East African player to win a Champions League title with Inter Milan in 2009/10 season.

In a recent interview, Mariga narrated how poor Harambee Stars FIFA ranking failed him to secure a move to Manchester City in 2010. Wanyama kicked off his football at Nairobi City Stars and AFC leopards before moving to Europe at the age of 15, he went to play for Scottish giants Celtic FC where he made history with the club where he made 91 appearances for the club.
