Home » Twitter Becomes First Social Media Firm To Allow Cannabis Ads

Elon Musk’s Twitter company on Wednesday became the first social media platform to allow marijuana companies to market their brands and products in the United States.

Earlier, Twitter had only allowed advertising for hemp- derivative tropical products but this comes after a surge in cannabis market in US states since the wake of Covid-19.

In other social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, cannabis advertisment policies remain illegal at the federal level in the US.

Now, nearly 21 states in US have moved towards allowing the sale of recreational cannabis to persons above 21 years of age.

The allowance of advertising marijuana in US has been accompanied by stringent guidelines where cannabis marketing firms are entitled to produce valid license and pass through approval process where only target jurisdictions licensed are allowed to operate.

Kate Lynch a Curaleaf cannabis company boss operating in US has appreciated the move of Twitter to allow the marketing of Marijuana on their platform saying it will be a motive to other social media platforms to review their policies on ads.

This change speaks to the growing acceptance of cannabis as a mainstream wellness category and we are hopeful it will serve as a catalyst for other platforms to follow suit” says Kate, Curaleaf boss.

Curaleaf as the biggest cannabis company operating in the US after experiencing some loss in marketing and poaching of its loyal customers in the wake of Covid-19, the company has stopped its operations in most states in the US.
