An Australian mother has opened up on a podcast on how she lost her son by suicide hours after sending nude to a ‘lover’.

Ms Pauline Stuart say, her son Ryan Last was at school when he thought he had found a lover little did he know, he was under a trap.

Ryan , 17 a college student in Australia was requested by his ‘online’ lover to sent nude to her which he did but in turn, morphed into money laundering.

The lover had sent him her nudes and now requested to have Ryan’s. Ryan fall into a trap and did as was requested but moments later, the online lover demanded $ 5000 money less ‘she’ leaks the nude to Ryan’s close friends and relatives.

The 17- year- old student as narrated by his mother, felt terrified, juggled and sent $150 to the online lover. On the occasion, the ‘scammer’ – online lover insisted to get the balance which Ryan didn’t have.

Hours later, the intense pressure and fear overpowered Ryan and committed suicide. Ms Stuart say, his son failed to be smart enough to deal with scammers who she say, the scammer probably knew his son well and where he come from.

She adds that, her son’s decision to die by suicide was also instigated by shame and fear he would have brought to the family after being raised up in a moral environment.

” I was very, very close to my kids but Ryan felt at the time that he made a mistake when information reaches us, it would hurt us,” she said.

Australian Federal Police when confirming the cause of Ryan’s death after investigation, they gave Ms Stuart a written letter from the late son which she say, the son felt sorry and much terrified of the happenings.

“We were in shock. The police officers gave us the copy of his note and … you could tell that he was absolutely terrified” says Ms Stuart.

Australian Federal Police -led Australian Center to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) and police further warned of the worrying rise in sextortion targeting young men like Ryan in Australia.

Sextortion a form of online blackmail entailing threats to share nude images and videos are often monetary and sometime, a victim may be ambushed till he/she comply to the certain demands.

Ms Julie Inman Grant an e-Safety commissioner in Australian following Ryans incident, advised the youth to be much smart with scammers and also, to those who have fallen victims of sextortion, to visit their offices for mental and physical support.

These are very clever organised criminals that will be very patient in terms of grooming young men and gaining their trust don’t be embarrassed,” Ms Inman Grant said for those who had been scammed.

Ms Stuart on the other hand, felt sorry for scammers to rob an innocent soul leading to a big loss in her family.

The fact that somebody could do that to a young kid to put that much fear into him that would take life, it makes me angry that someone thinks money is more important than a child’s life ~ Ms Stuart said.

She further advised the youth to avoid sharing intimate images whether to known or unknown persons.

Do not share any intimate imagery with someone you’ve never met. You just don’t know who’s on the other end of that account and you don’t know what their intentions are.

Parents on the other hand, should talk to their kids and let them know that no matter what mistake that child makes you will be there for (them)” Ms Stuart advised.
