Brazilian Footballer Arrested Over Sexual Assault In Spain

A prominent Brazilian soccer player was on Friday arrested in Spain over sexual assault.The soccer maestro accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a night club, formerly plaid for Barcelona,

The police reports, Dani Alves assaulted a woman on 31st , Dec 2022 and denied the wrongs until his arrest yesterday.

Upon his arrest, the judge denied Alves bail even after the alleged victim and witnesses testifying before the court prosecutor.

The former Barcelona star is now in custody in a prison near Barcelona, as his fate still undisclosed.

In Spain, the ammended sexual assault law, 2022 judges an offender to be jailed for a period up to 15 years.

Sexual assault according to Spanish law, refers to anything unsolicited and unwanted sexual relation or prompt to rape.

However, the police and court press haven’t given any information concerning the jail of Alves without bail.

In a video sent to Spanish Television last week, Alves denied the allegations acknowledging that he had gone for a dancing club on the night of alleged accusations. He said he did not know the woman and always has respect to each and every individual.

” I was there having a good time with other people. Everyone who knows me knows that I like dancing. I was having a good time, but I never invaded the personal space of anyone. I always am respectful” Alves said.

Alves had signed for Pumas last year July and upon the arrest, the Mexican club announced the termination of his work contract.

“This is an institution that promotes respect and the correct, dignified and professional behavior of its male and female players both on and off the field because they are role models in Mexico and throughout the world. We cannot permit any conduct that would damage our philosophy” Pumas’ president Leopoldo Silva said.

Unless that decision is reversed on appeal, Alves will remain in custody until trial which the date/s still unspecified.
