Google Lays Off 12,000 Employees

Big tech industries amid Covid- 19 have axed employees without cease.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has sent job termination to his employees via email with plan to adopt Artificial Intelligence.

The Google and Alphabet boss informed his staff on Friday, at Silicon Valley about the cuts via an email.

On the email, he first felt pity for the affected employees in US as employees in other regions, waits for theirs.

“I have some difficult news to share. We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles. We’ve already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected.In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices” Pichai said

As the axe looks at impacting Sundar’s business, he said Googlers will also benefit from it.

” The fact that these changes will impact the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here” he added.

Amid Covid-19 pandemic, tech industry has dramatically grown in inventions and earnings.The pandemic which has led to tech advancement, will now see brilliant minds losing their jobs.

Regarding the layoffs, the CEO has reached the amid decision after a huge investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which will take up the roles of axed employees.

“I am confident about the huge opportunity in front of us thanks to the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in AI” he said.

Despite the layoffs, Sundar Pichai has promised to cater for needs of the affected ones as they cop up with the layoff.

“While this transition won’t be easy, we’re going to support employees as they look for their next opportunity” he notes.

In the US, he says the support will cater for bonuses, severance packages, healthcare and salary.

” We’ll pay employees during the full notification period (minimum 60 days).We’ll also offer a severance package starting at 16 weeks salary plus two weeks for every additional year at Google, and accelerate at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting.We’ll pay 2022 bonuses and remaining vacation time. We’ll be offering 6 months of healthcare, job placement services, and immigration support for those affected” he says.

To those living outside US, the affected employees will be supported in line with their local labour rules and regulations.

” Outside the US, we’ll support employees in line with local practices” he summed.

For almost 25 years, Goggle has been a big tech house in global market and service delivery.With the layoff, it will bound to go through difficult economic cycles which are much important for it to reengineer the cost base.

As mass layoffs continue to be experienced from big tech houses, Amazon has laid off 18,000 employees.Meta, 11,000, Microsoft 10,000 and Twitter 4,400 employees, are also the victims of the company’s sharp axe.
