A Visually Impaired Priest Ordained By Catholic Church

On Saturday, a congregation of Catholic faithfuls at St Benedict Kiamuiru Parish witnessed the ordinance of a first ever visually Impaired deacon to priesthood.
Michael Mithamo, the first ever blind priest was ordained at the St Benedict Kiamuiru Parish in Nyeri County by Archbishop Anthony Muheria.
While presiding over the mass of ordination with jubilation, Archbishop Anthony Muheria urged people to recognize and give opportunities to those living with disabilities serve the lord and also, offer them assistance at any time of need.
“I am impressed by the dedication of Fr. Michael. He will be given special and enhanced braille – a mass Missal – to enable him to read during mass. He told me he does not need sympathy but wants to work and preach the gospel. Please accord him the assistance he needs,” said Muheria.
Further, the Archbishop ordered for the deployment of tech- machines to aid the newly conferred clergy disburse his duties peacefully.
On the other hand, Mithamo who previously worked as deacon at Kigumo Parish in Othaya, Nyeri County, thanked all that supported him to make his dream and desire valid.
“I want to thank all the priests and brothers who have been praying for me and the Christians who help me throughout my studies, especially during the mission in churches,” said Father Michael.
Additionally, Father Michael previewed his back desire and prayer to see those living with disabilities granted priesthood opportunities.
“This is what I’ve been looking forward to. Those people who might be physically challenged in one way or another, that doesn’t mean the end of life,” said the newly ordained priest.
Father Michael Mithamo King’ori will continue serving at Kigumo Parish, in Nyeri County.
