“Tuligongana Sana”: Alex Mwakideu Says Working With Jalas For The First Time Wasn’t Easy

Media personality Alex Mwakideu revealed that although working with Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalas was indescribable, their first days in hosting a show together were full of differences.

Mwakideu revealed to Phil Director that he and Jalas had daily quarrels before, during and after the show. He stated that their boss had a huge task to mediate between them.

The Radio 47 presenter explained that most of their quarrels came over the running of the current affairs show on Radio Maisha. Mwakideu stated that the quarrels were also because of the experience and creativity of each other in the media industry.

He explained that he saw himself as a bigwig on the Radio, especially a Swahili radio, and that he knew most Kenyans listened to Swahili shows compared to English.

In his view, Jalas who had just left Kiss FM to join him, was less versed in the Swahili fan base and content. Due to the differences, he said each other had his way of wishing and running the breakfast show.

Kama kuna kitu watu hawajui kati yangu na Jalas ni kwamba, tulikuwa tukivurugana sana wakati tulipoanza kufanya kazi pamoja. Tuligongana sana.” He revealed.

Due to the differences, they reported each other to their then-boss, Tom Japanni, after their show at 10am. In his statement, neither of them wanted to co-host with the other.

Maybe because vyuma vikikwaruzana sana vinakuwa laini lakini tuligongana sana. Kila siku saa nne asubuhi tulikuwa na kesi kwa bosi wetu. Tulikuwa tukishtakiana kila siku. Sikuwa ninataka kufanya Show naye, naye pia hakutaka kufanya Show nami.” He shared.

To solve their daily conflict; Mwakideu revealed that Tom Japanni made a habit of taking them out for a luncheon or Friday merry to cement their relationship and watering brotherhood.

Boss wetu naye alikuwa jamaa wa busara. Kila Ijumaa alikuwa akituchukua na kutupeleka maskani fulani tuburudike kwa sababu ya malalamishi yetu ya kila siku. Yanii, kila Furahidei ikawa sherehe na ndivyo tulivyokuja kuelewana,” he narrated.
