AFCON: Anselme Santos an Ivorian fan has been forced to apologise after a video went viral capturing his asking for a phone number from the unidentified lady.

The Ivorian man in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), was captured leaning on a Senegalese woman’s shoulder as he asked for a phone number.However was asking for the number following Cote D’Ivoire’s win against Senegal, the woman seemed adamant or resistant to give out her phone number to the man.

The man identified as Anselme Santos, has been forced to apologise to his wife and children after the video clip went viral to the extent of social media users making memes out of it.

In his apology, Anselme has said it even if he asked for the number which is not bad, the woman never gave him because the whole field was in a celebratory mood following Cote D’Ivoire’s win against Senegal.

“I asked her please give me your number, there’s nothing wrong to ask,” he told one Ivorian media.

I was not insisting…we are in the stadium, we are having fun, I was not harassing her, I didn’t go to the stadium to hit on women, No, in front of all those cameras?” he posed. 

Anselme further alleged at the time of asking for the number, he never thought someone was filming him until he bumped into the short film while making merry in one Ivorian hostel.

“I saw the video while was in the hotel, everyone was calling me saying it had gone viral on social media,” he said.

Due to online film trends, he has publicly apologised for his action and vowed not to repeat it but to take caution for the wellbeing of his family members and himself as a father and husband to someone.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to my wife, and my kids, I want to apologize to the lady and her family…we were just having fun, I am truly sorry,” he apologised.

During the ongoing AFCON, Ivory Coast managed to knock out Senegal through penalties after securing a draw in the 120 minutes. The Ivorians are now set to face Mali in the quarter-finals.
