Roberto Firmino Bids Liverpool Goodbye In Style

Roberto Firmino bowed out in style as he helped Liverpool draw 4-4 against relegated Southampton in the final game of the Premier League season.
Diogo Jota took advantage of Romeo Lavia’s bad pass as he opened the scoring, and Roberto Firmino scored to make it 2-0 in his farewell game for the Reds. James Ward-Prowse assisted the Saints in getting one back, and Kamaldeen Sulemana’s debut goal for the team in the 28th minute brought the score level at halftime.
Just after the break, Sulemana completed the comeback with the third goal for Southampton, and in the 64th, Adam Armstrong made it 4-2 for the home team. However, Liverpool answered with a tap-in from Cody Gakpo in the 72nd minute, and Jota leveled the score a minute later with his second.
In the final 15 minutes, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah attempted a lobbed shot that struck the post, but neither team was able to score to win the game.
Speaking after the win, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insisted his team could be champions again.
“There were moments during this season where you thought it [the struggle] would be four years long,” said Klopp. “Imagine if we were our normal selves [earlier in the season], which we absolutely will be next season, and we will be a contender again. “The last 11 games helped us realize that again,” he said.
