Woman Burns Son For Stealing Food
A couple in Kayunga District has been taken into custody after burning their five year old son for eating the leftover food that they had kept for the next day.
Police reports confirm that Kairanhe Jamada, a resident of Busunsuli – Busaana Sub County, bought a kilogram of meat to celebrate Eid. The family left pieces for the next day before departing for their daily routine.
When they returned from the garden, they discovered that the victim had eaten the food that had been kept to be served for lunch that day. This was when his mother, Kolostika Nabirye angrily dragged him and put his hands in the fire as punishment.
“His father and I did not eat. We went to the garden with the hope that we would find the food when we returned. I wanted him to stop stealing because I had warned him before,” Nabirye told police.
After burning their son, the couple hid him in the house and by the time police were alerted about the incident a week later, he was in a critical condition with his hands already rotting away.
Neighbors have accused the couple of always abusing their son and many have witnessed Kairanhe physically torturing him on numerous occasions.
Nabirye however revealed that he punished his son to please her husband who was always complaining about their son’s habit. Kairanhe in his defense, denied the child abuse allegations and begged police to allow him get his son the treatment he needs.
“The parents are both guilty of abusing the child. They are terrible people who deserve to be in prison,” the LC1 chairman John Olweny stated.
Police officer in charge of children affairs, Rose Chebet confirmed that the victim was rushed to Kayunga hospital and the suspects taken into custody as they await to be arraigned in court to answer for charges of child abuse.
