Teacher In Spotlight For Defiling His Teenage Pupil
Police in Mbale have arrested and put behind bars a primary school teacher for multiple counts of defiling pupils at A school where he is employed.
The accused was identified as Situma Joel, a teacher of Science in primary six and seven at Nabuyonga Primary School.
According to Elgon Region police spokesperson Rogers Tayitika, Situma’s arrest comes after parents alerted the police following the defilement of a 13 year old pupil.
Tayitika narrated that the suspect had ordered the victim to come to school very early in the morning multiple times and defile her in his office. When the pupil rejected him on one occasion, Situma allegedly beat her up terribly.
Upon police investigation, it was discovered that the same teacher had sexually abused a number of pupils at the school. They also discovered other teachers who they suspected to have been involved in the same vice.
He was charged with aggravated defilement under file number CRB 297/2023 as further investigations into the matter are going on.
Nabuyonga Primary School head teacher Kabuni Grace expressed her shock when police arrived at the school to arrest one of her teachers on allegations she had no knowledge of. She further noted that the teacher would be expelled from the school and his papers confiscated.
