Man Cons 12 Youths Millions Of Shillings In Fake Police Deployment

The victims were left stranded on Kampala streets

Kampala Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation to track down a man who pretended to be a soldier and conned twelve youths promising to train and deploy them in Uganda Police Force.

It is said that the suspect who is currently on the run visited his home villages of Kibuku and Budaka Districts and tasked the youths who wanted to join the police force to look for a whopping sum of Ush4 million each to facilitate their deployment. He introduced himself as Tugeze Moses attached to the Counter Terrorism squad.

By Monday morning, the twelve victims boarded from the villages to Kampala to meet Tugeze who would allegedly pick them up and take them to the training center in Kabalye, Masindi District.

Kyobe Moses, one of the victims narrated that when they got to the city center, they met Tugeze at Uganda House who collected the money from them. He also threatened to leave behind all those that had not cleared the full amount.

Kyobe further revealed that the scammer got a paper and after he was done ticking off all those who had given him the money, he left promising to come back with a car to drive them to their destination.

The victims who were loaded with their luggage were left stranded on the streets as they waited for Tugeze to come back in vain.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigirye stated that investigations had been launched into determining whether the suspect was truly from the police force. He further stated that there had not been any announcement for deployment.

Owoyesigire also warned the members of the public not to pay money for deployment into the police force since it was free of charge.

The victims were then led to Central Police Station (CPS) to have their matter investigated by the Crime Intelligence.
