Woman Arrested For Burning Her Own Child
A mother in Mityana District survived being lynched by the mob for aggravated torture and child abuse against her biological child.
Nakigozi Christine, a resident of Kito is accused of locking the child in the house, denying her food and oftentimes she severely beats her with an excuse of punishing her. Neighbours testified that on many occasions, they had tried to warn Nakigozi from mistreating her child in vain.
The residents were tipped off about how she had burned the toddler’s hands with hot water and when they tried to confront her, Nakigozi arrogantly brushed them off.
“How do you burn your own child as a form of punishment? It is a crime to batter, burn and cut your own child. That is so harsh and she deserves to be put behind bars,” an angry resident demanded.
The angry neighbours also accused Nakigozi’s husband for ignoring the situation and not protecting his child against the mother’s abuse. It is alleged that her husband was the first victim of her wickedness when she tried poisoning him.
“She first tried to poison her husband that is why he is quiet about the whole thing. It is very sad that she has to treat her biological child like this,” a neighbor stated.
The child was examined and discovered with scars, a sign that shows she was undergoing continuous torture by the mother. Nakigozi’s arrogant responses angered the residents who quickly lashed out at her. As they tried to beat her up, Police from Mityana rushed to the scene and tried to calm the situation down.
Nakigozi was put on a motorcycle with her two children and taken into custody with a strong warning from locals never to return to the village. She will be charged with child abuse.
