Talibans Ban Its Women From Working For UN
The United Nations (UN) on Tuesday said that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan has notified it that it has banned Afghan’s women from working at the agency, making the latest move to impose tough conditions on women’s rights in the country.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that “the ban is neither acceptable nor possible”.
“This is the latest alarming trend in undermining the ability of aid organizations to reach those in need’’ he said
In recent months, the United Nations has expressed concern that the ban may be imposed by the Taliban. In January this year, UN deputy secretary Amina Mohammed visited several Afghan cities such as Kabul, Kandahar and Herat accompanied by a high-level delegation, to talk with Taliban officials about several measures that undermine the rights of women and girls.
Women in that country are not allowed to attend classes or work away from where they live. This comes barely a day after over 20 school going girls were poisoned in Iran in a bid to scare them from going to school.
