Mike Sonko Promises To Help Woman Attacked By Hyenas Get An Artificial Eye

Mike Mbuvi Sonko promised to help Irene Wambua Mbithe get an artificial eye six years after the hyenas’ attack.
In an exclusive interview with Shajara na Lulu on Citizen TV, Irene, a woman from Machakos County, revealed that she lost her eye and an arm after the truck drivers threw her out of the vehicle in Tsavo West National Park in 2018.
She narrated that after the painful encounter, she had been struggling to hustle, get basic needs, cater for medication and her house rent.

Mike Sonko, a former Nairobi governor, felt emotional after watching the show and promised to help her get an artificial eye at Lion’s First Sight Eye Hospital in Nairobi.
“Nitakulipia hiyo rent ya nyumba ya 3 months halafu Kuna madaktari Lion’s First Sight Eye Hospital kutoka India na hilo Jicho nitakufanyia transplant upate Jicho mpya- an artificial eye na Mungu atakusaidia.” Mike Sonko promised as Irene expressed her heartfelt gratitude for his support.
In a separate post, Sonko promised to work with the Directorate for Criminal Investigation ( DCI) and hunt for the culprits who almost cut short the life of the Machakos woman.

Currently, Sonko has paid the rent for the woman, given her money for basic needs and booked her for the eye transplant process as of Tuesday next week.
“We have already fixed an appointment for her to be seen by a team of eye specialists on Tuesday at the Lion’s Sight Eye Hospital for a check-up, and thereafter, she will undergo an artificial eye transplant surgery. We will also do a thorough follow-up with the good office of the DCI to ensure all the culprits are brought to book.” He shared.
