Teenager Loses Baby In A Pit Latrine

Residents in Nyamiyaga, Rubanda District were left in shock after a teenage daughter of a church member gave birth and her new born baby accidentally dropped in the pit latrine and died.
It is alleged that at around 8:00 AM, the expectant mother experienced labor pains and her father, Herbert Katureebe rushed her to a nearby local church to pray for the pain to go away instead of being taken to for medical attention.
Witnesses believe that Katureebe had no idea that her 16 year old daughter was having contractions that is why he opted for prayers. By the time they got to the church, the teenager who was now experiencing a lot of pain excused herself to visit the washrooms.
According to Elly Maate, Kigezi Regional spokesperson, the girl gave birth in the pit latrine and the baby dropped into the pit and died.
Church members who got to know about the incident as it had happened, alerted the LC2 chairperson Justus Ensiteriyitu who in turn reported to police. With the help of the locals, the police were able to retrieve the baby’s dead body which was handed to the relatives for burial.
The teenager was then taken to Hamurwa Health Center for medical attention after being interrogated by police. Maate revealed that they were actively searching for one Arinda Boaz who is said to have impregnated the girl and once arrested, he will face charges of defilement.
