Man Commits Suicide After Positive HIV Result
Police in Lukwanga, Wakiso District are investigating circumstances in which a young man decided to take his own life.
Sam Kakiyayi, a motorcyclist was discovered hanging in his house with a rope around his neck. As residents suspect that the deceased made the decision to take his own life because they had confiscated his motor bike, a close witness revealed that Sam committed suicide after he discovered he was HIV positive.
“They tested him and found that he was HIV positive. That is why he took his own life. His friends have been trying to console and cheer him up, something he was not patient with.” A close friend to the deceased confirmed.
Speaking about the unfortunate incident, Nalukoola Sharifah, a local council representative has grieved with the family of the deceased and encouraged parents to always raise their children in a godly way to help them make better decisions about their lives.
“As mothers, we should train up our children right from childhood and raise them in a religious manner. If we do not turn them towards God, such cases like suicide will happen often because they do not know the impact of what they have done and how it affects their relationship with God.” She said.
There have been an increasing number of suicide cases among the youths and local leaders of the area advising the youths to always seek help on issues they feel are too big for them to tackle alone.
“My fellow youths should know that no matter the situation, committing suicide is not the solution. If you are facing tough situations, get someone to talk to about the whole issue. People will come out and help you.” He weighed in.
Police from Wakiso took the deceased’s body for postmortem in Mulago Hospital as it continues with the investigations.
