Bonga Points To Settle Okoa Jahazi Debts
Safaricom users who take long time before paying back their Okoa Jahazi, will now have the arrears deducted from their loyalty points automatically.
The move aims to reduce the value of Bonga points unredeemed by their customers worth of billions which are a liability to the Company.
As of March,2022 the unreedemed Bonga points had amassed 4.5 billion shillings in liabilities up from 3 billion in 2015.
The loyalty program scheme, introduced in January 2007, gives subscribers one Bonga point for every Ksh. 10 spent on the telco’s network on voice, mobile data and SMS and for every Ksh. 100 spent on the network for M-Pesa transactions.
According to the giant Telco, Okoa Jahazi enables prepaid customers receive the emergency credit whenever they experience credit shortage by dialling *131#.
Early this year, Safaricom assured its customers of no expiry date for their Bonga points.
