On the 8th January, 2023, the family of Sserunga Yasin and wife Allen Nabatanzi in Katikamu, Luwero District woke up to terrible news of the demise of their missing 8 year old son who was murdered by unknown people in cold blood.

Yasin Sserunga Junior, a pupil at Destiny Primary School was kidnapped from their home the previous day before his mutilated torso was discovered without the head, toes and fingers.

55 days later, the bereaved family is working tirelessly and putting the police under pressure to find the missing body parts so they could bury them alongside the toddler’s torso which was laid to rest in Kasanga village in Nakasongola District.

Yasin reports that police arrested a suspect two weeks back in connection to their son’s murder but he has never been put on trial. The suspect is accused of hanging around the crime scene a night before the murder and diverting the search party.

Savannah Police spokesperson, Patrick Lule confirmed the arrest of Robert Mawanda suspect who he says refused to collaborate with the police.

“We are trying so hard to see that we get answers from this suspect but he still remains silent about the issue.” Patrick Lule told journalists.

The father of the deceased also notes that the family who abandoned their home are currently living under fear of being attacked by the suspect who they say might be released from custody very soon.

“We are in so much pain because we not only buried our son with missing body parts but also in fear of being attacked by the suspect. We do not stay in our homes anymore because for the time the suspect has spent with the police, he might be released.” Yasin said.

Mr. Patrick Lule however, maintains that the suspect will remain under custody because he is still under investigation and the case file has been submitted to the government prosecution.

In the crime report 2022, 55 murder cases were reported in Luwero District ranking it 8th in districts with the highest number of murders.
