President Museveni Warns UPDF Army
While speaking on the ceremony to mark 42 years of the army, Gen. Museveni also the commander in chief of the UPDF revealed that the army was treasured during the war because they were patriotic and taking part in these dubious acts will be a deviation from their core values that made them loved by Ugandans.
“If you do that, the people will hate you. That is what happened; the people hated those armies,” He said.
The president further reminded Ugandans how the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) founded by Milton Obote in 1960 did not protect democratic values, something that destroyed the economy.
“UPC, the political party which had grabbed power, blocked the democratic process of genuine and constructive debate that we warned them about many times but never paid heed to our warnings.” He said.
Museveni recalls there were no consumer goods, smuggling, no wealth production and much more until his government (NRM) took over power and focused on patriotism and non-sectarian behavior which must be upheld.

“The correct ideology of the NRM comprised of the four principles of Patriotism, love Uganda; Uganda is more useful to us that the tribal groups or religious sectarianism, Love Africa; (Pan Africanism) because we need Africa for prosperity for a wider market, social economic transformation; we must have modern Ugandans, not peasants producing peasants; and democracy…” He stated.
The Terehe Sita celebrations took place at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara with the president as the chief guest. He was awarded the highest military decoration in Uganda, the Katonga medal
He is among the 66 people who were awarded with medals. Other awards include the Kabalega medal, Luweero medal and Damu medal.
