Government To Issue New Borns With Unique Numbers At Birth
Kenyan Government is set to Issue New Borns with Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) at Birth.
The UPI number will be the individuals’s identification number upon turning 18yrs.
Once the programme is launched, it will collapse different state agencies involved in different registrations and thus hasten the generation of a clear, integrated and harmonized register.
The number too will be used as social security number(NSSF), health insurance number(NHIF) and eventually death certificate number for the particular individual.
“It will be their National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) number in school. When they turn 18, it will be their ID, NHIF, NSSF and will be the number of your death certificate,” said CS Kindiki.
The nurses and doctors will help register the infants whilst the assistant chiefs will register community births.
