Charges Against Manchester United Star Mason Greenwood Dropped
Manchester United Footballer Mason Greenwood has had all charges against him dropped by Crown Prosecution.
The 21-year- old striker had been accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive control and arrested January last year 2022.
On 2nd February, 2023, Greater Manchester Police confirmed the drop of charges that were meted on the young star.
Greenwood was to appear before the court prosecution trial on November 23rd, 2023 after first appearing before court trial last year, November 2022.
Mason was arrested and arraigned in court under alleged offenses related to one woman recorded to have taken place between November, 1st 2018 and October, 15th 2022.
Articulating the drop of the charges, the Crown Prosecutor has said the withdrawal of key witnesses have made the charges lack weight but that no longer mean it’s fully over.
“In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.
“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case. We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met” the Crown Prosecutor ruled.
Upon the arrest, the football star was suspended from Manchester United, removed from FIFA 2022 and his sponsors NIKE dropped him in the awake of the allegations.
Additionally, all the merchandise bearing the no 11’s name were axed from Manchester Utd official sites.
However he was suspended from Manchester United, Mason was still receiving his € 75,000 week salary.
Would he now be allowed to play at Old Trafford? Jubilations from global fans upon the charges drop are of the view and hope of looking forward to see the striker back in the field.
Ten Hag and Manchester United officials on the other hand, have so far not yet talked to media about their move and stand with Greenwood.
