Radio Manager Arrested For Assaulting Female Presenter Over Ksh 375 Commission

A radio station manager has been arrested by police in Kanungu District after assaulting a female presenter at the same station.

 

A 51-year- old manager identified as Nelson Kagote Twinamatsiko allegedly assaulted Anita Tumuramye a female journalist at Kanungu FM after she demanded for her commission for an advert she brought to the station.

 

In an assault video going around social media, Twinamatsiko is captured beating Tumuramye as she struggles to seek safety in between his legs where she’s held tightly and on the floor, some blood spots are also seen where Ms Tumuramye is nosebleeding.

 

Further, voices of male journalists at the station are heard urging Twinamatsiko to leave the female journalist but he seems irresistible.

 

According to Tumuramye, she secured an advert worth Ugsh 200,000 on 26th January 2023 and brought to the station which was paid in cash and in line with firm guidelines, Tumuramye was to get a commission Ug sh 40,000.

 

However, upon finishing recording the advert, Twinamatsiko declined to give her the entitled commission and when she insisted her enquiry, she received a slap on her face which left her nosebleeding followed by drags and beatings.

 

On the day of the incident, the 24-year-old journalist say she didn’t go to report to a nearest police station due fear of her life.

 

“I could not walk to the police that night for fear of my life. The next morning, I went to the hospital for treatment and got the medical form which I took to the police. He beat me mainly because I demanded my money from him,” she says.

 

Under CRB 094/2023 file report made by Tumuramye and witnesses, police visited the place of scene and confirmed the assault allegations where the manager later got arrested according to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Mr Elly Maate.

 

The Police visited the scene of the crime and documented details, investigations were carried out and the suspect was summoned to record his statement on Wednesday after which he was detained pending prosecution. Case file compiled and forwarded to Resident State Attorney with the charge sheet for further management,” Mr Maate said.

 

Ms Tumuramye also notes that since the promotion of Twinamatsiko to managerial position, the two haven’t been in good terms regarding work specializations as Twinamatsiko relieved her some duties she was engaged in such as receptionist, cashier, news anchor and presenter.

 

When Twinamatsiko was appointed the manager, he relieved me of my cashier and receptionist roles. But he never stopped there, he kept chasing after me and I only remained with only one role of a news anchor,” Ms Tumuramye narrated.

 

Twinamatsiko is now held in custody at Kanungu Police Station waiting for pending prosecution as a deeper investigations into the matter takes root.
