'Pay Musicians,' Ali Mukhwana Tells Ezekiel Mutua

Gospel Musician hailing from Kakamega Ali Mukhwana has requested Music and Copyright Society of Kenya C.E.O Dr. Ezekiel Mutua to pay Musicians.

Mr Ezekiel Mutua Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO I Come in Peace kindly Lipa Wasani Pesa zao

The Musician claims that they have not received their money since 2015 recounting that the promised December had already passed and they only relied on empty promises.

“From 2015 to 2023 MUSIC COPYRIGHT SOCIETY OF KENYA M.G. Haijawahi Lipa Wasani”

“Juzi Ulituambia December Last Year Utalipa kwani December yako Haifiki Ama ilikuwa PR tupu Ulikuwa Unachezea Akili Zetu”

He further laments the effort they put to come up with good content only to end up unrewarded. The Musician also wonders what the next generation of  musicians will reap if they themselves are struggling this much.

“Naomba Ujumbe Huu ukufikie tunajaribu tuwezavyo kufanya Nyimbo nzuri za Kumtukuza Mungu lakini ikifika Kwa HAKI Zetu Munatunyanyasa itakuwa Hivi Mpaka lini Je Vizazi Vinavyo kuja Baada ya Sisi Vitafanya Nini??? Watoto Wetu Watauliza Baba Ulikuwa Mwimbaji Shupavu Kenya na Ulimwengu mzima Nini Ulifanya 😭😭😭😭😭

In response while speaking to Radio Maisha’s Mbaruk Mwalimu and Billy Miya, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua asked the musicians to be patient as the Government had not collected the royalties from broadcasters, matatus and hotels and also due to the tough economic times the country has been in.

“Wakuwe tu wavumilivu kwa maana tumetoka tu kwenye Covid, tukaingia kwenye uchaguzi”

He also requested for more time to implement reforms he is set to put in place

“Mimi nimeingia MCSK campaigns zikiwa zinaendelea hata sijatulia sasa wanaanza kuandika na ndio ninaweka mikakati. Wanipe muda Rome was not built in a day”

The C.E.O further noted that the musicians were talking of royalties which are to be collected where Musician’s songs are being listened to noting that they had an agreement with broadcasting companies and Public Service Vehicles but Government never collected the dues and that’s why they failed to pay the Musicians in December as earlier promised.
