A health research organisation in Spain is looking for 1,000 men and women to drink wine daily for four years. The University of Navarra Alumni Trialist Initiative (UNATI), a medical institution, revealed that it has received 6,500 people and has a deficit of 3,500.
Spain aims to research the impact of beer, wine and spirits on the health status of people, especially those aged 50- 70, concerning heart diseases, cancer, mental health and overall mortality.
Under the sponsorship of several organisations and stakeholders, including the European Research Council, led by Professor Miguel Angel Martinez-Gonzalez, Chair of Preventive Medicine at the University of Navarra, he said that only people without healthy complications are to participate in the research.

“We currently have 6,500 participants enrolled. We are making good progress in recruiting new volunteers day by day. Please help us, because UNATI means health for all.” Prof. Martinez Gonzalez told the Olive Press, emphasising that they intend to provide better care and health.
He also noted that the volunteers required to participate in drinking of beers, wines and spirits, women should be 55- 75 years of age and men, 50- 70.
They should be in Spain, consume at least three bottles of the drinks weekly. Additionally, the deadline for the recruitment is June 2025, and the research will last four years.

Participants will be grouped into two categories; one group will comprise beer drinkers, and the other, those who will be abstaining or intending to quit alcohol.
The institution emphasised that the research aims to know whether moderate consumption of wine has negative effects on the body of a person.
