Disc Jockey Pierra Makena revealed that in her early years in the entertainment industry as a DJ, she encountered hatred from her fellow DJS, especially men.
Speaking to Dr. Ofweneke on TV47, the celebrated DJ revealed that most male DJS felt she was taking up their space and would overtake them in the industry.
Although Makena was aware of the hatred from the male DJS, she used to fear seeing herself trending on X, formerly Twitter. She said that her anxiety made her feel that if she ever trended, she’d kill herself.

Despite her fears, the mother of one admitted that she developed a thick skin after she deejayed at an event in Meru, which the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta attended and even lauded her.
Makena said she woke up trending on X, gaining a huge following and receiving both positive and negative reactions from netizens. However, she took the trend positively since she gained many followers.
“When I started, I was hated so much, but having been at it for a while, I came to terms with it as a day-to-day problem, though my greatest fear was what if I ever trend? I used to fear that. It was crazy. If I trend on Twitter, I would die. I was so scared of it.” She revealed.

Besides her early challenges in the industry, she also revealed that no brand had ever rejected her, aside from one, which denied her a branding chance, citing she was a single mother.
“A brand has never dropped me because of anything, but there’s only one brand that ever told me when I was pregnant that they can’t work with me for being pregnant and a single mother. They said their brand is not associated with single mothers, and was a lady in that boardroom.” She revealed.
