Newborn Baby Dies After Being Abandoned By Mother
In a distressing event, authorities discovered the lifeless body of a newborn baby at a residence in Haga village, Siaya County.
The discovery was reported to Karemo police post by Grace Otieno, the acting Assistant Chief of Bar-Agulu sub-location, after the infant’s body was found at the homestead of Jackline Anyango.Following investigations, it was revealed that 20-year-old Yvonne Atieno, employed as a domestic worker nearby, was the mother of the deceased infant.

Atieno recounted encountering labor pain during the night and failing to get assistance from the nearby Bar-Agulu dispensary, which was closed.
Unable to find help, Atieno gave birth at a neighboring compound before leaving the newborn infant behind. Tragically, the baby was discovered dead the next morning.Authorities subsequently took Atieno to Bar-Agulu dispensary for medical evaluation, while the scene was guarded by officers.

The dead infant’s body was transferred to Siaya County Referral Hospital morgue for further examination pending an autopsy.
