Tanzanian Comedian Umar Lahbedi Issa popularly known as Mzee wa Mjegeje has passed away. He was famous for his viral phrase ‘Kata Simu ,Nipo Site’
Mzee Mjegeje passed away while receiving treatment at the Mwananyamala Hospital Dar es Salaam on March 20, 2024. The cause of his death is yet to be established or to be shared to his fans. His death was confirmed by his Manager Real Jimmy.
Mzee Mjegeje become popular over his viral phrase ‘Kata Simu, Nipo Site’ that earned him massive following across different social media platforms. He was cherished by many netizens from East Africa who loved his comic skits.

Due to his accrued fame on social media, he was featured in several songs by renowned artists from his country. One of the notable musician he worked with was Bongo Flava sensation star Harmonize who is widely known for his great hits. He recently revealed the amount he was paid by the singer.
“I was paid Tshs 5 million by Harmonize,” he stated
Recently he had aired his wish of working with WCB boss Diamond Platnumz whose music Calibre is unmatched and respected globally.
