Islamic police in Nigeria arrested 11 Muslims caught eating during the Ramadan fast on Tuesday evening in Kano State.
The Islamic police known as Hisbah detained 11 Muslims which included 10 men and one woman at the marketplace eating when other Muslims had observed Ramadan fast.
According to the Islamic police spokesperson Lawal Fagge at Kano State, the woman among the 10 men was selling groundnuts to the Muslims at the wares where witnesses sent the report to the police.

“We got 11 persons on Tuesday, including a lady selling groundnuts who was seen eating from her wares, and some persons alerted us,” stated Fagge.
Further, the police said they were more strict with Islamic doctrines and that non-muslims found selling food to Muslims would also be arrested for standing a stamp hold barring their faithful from observing Ramadan fast.
“We don’t arrest non-Muslims because this doesn’t concern them, and the only time they could be guilty of a crime is when we find out they cook food to sell to Muslims that are supposed to be fasting,” Fagge clarified.

Hisbah’s move to arrest Muslims who break Ramadan rules and regulations has raised different opinions from the public and most people around Kano State are pleased with the actions while others criticise the action.
The Critics allege Ramadan fast is the free will of a person to choose either to fast or not to fast. Further, they allege some chose not to fast because of health conditions or job activities they were doing.
