Ngugi wa Thiong’o Son Reveals The Renowned Author Used To Beat Up Wife

Through his X page formerly Twitter, Mukoma revealed domestic abuse between his father and his late mother Nyambura
Professor Mukoma wa Ngugi, son of the revered author Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o has opened up about marital challenges in their family.Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o born James Ngugi is a Kenyan author and academic, who has been described as “East Africa’s leading novelist”. He began writing in English, switching to write primarily in Gikuyu.
His work includes novels, plays, short stories, and essays, ranging from literary and social criticism to children’s literature.

Through his X page formerly twitter, Mukoma revealed domestic abuse between his father and his late mother Nyambura, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s first wife. He gave insights to the untold family matters of the renowned author.
Mukoma stated that his father, Ngugi was physically abusive to his late mother, something his father has never delved into.
“My father Ngugi Wa Thiong’o physically abused my late mother. He would beat her up. Some of my earliest memories are me going to visit her at my grandmother’s where she would seek refuge.But with that said, it is the silencing of who she was that gets me. OK-I have said it,” Mukoma wa Ngugi deeply shared.

Nyambura passed away in 1996. Together they were blessed with 6 children including Professor Mukoma who is also a author.
