A British Army sergeant accused of bigamy denied the allegation, laying blame on the language barrier during the wedding ceremony with a Kenyan woman.

Sgt Noa Dravikula had been stationed in Nanyuki, Kenya when he fell in love with a Kenyan woman in 2021 at the time he was legally married.

It’s reported the British sergeant tied the knot with Kuki Wason in October 2021 through Sharia Laws breaking the law of marriage according to British the constitution on bigamy.

He then proceeded to marry a second individual on October 29, 2021, whilst married to his first wife. In doing so he committed bigamy,” Prosecutor Flight Lieutenant Charlotte Adams told the court according to the Daily Mirror.

According to reports, the British authority got the attention of the army when he was signing paperwork to travel with Kuki to the UK and opened a file case for him.

However, the army officer denied the allegations laying blame on the language barrier. He claimed the marriage ceremony conducted under Sharia Laws was in Kiswahili and that he never understood what was going on.

In Britain, the officer married his UK woman in 2011 but the two filed a divorce case in 2017 though their divorce file had not been cleared by the authority.

Due to its incompleteness, the officer was still considered legally married thus breaking the law of bigamy and getting the Kenyan woman pregnant.

On October 29, 2021, a Sharia Law marriage ceremony called a nikah took place – this was a legal, recognised marriage ceremony. The marriage ceremony was a valid Kenyan marriage ceremony and in doing so he committed bigamy whilst his first wife was still alive and not divorced,” the prosecutor added.

Bigamy is a state in which a legally married person marries another person without divorcing the first one through a court of law. In Britain, a person found culpable of breaking bigamy earns a jail sentence of seven years.
