Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge Mauled Online For Mourning Late Kelvin Kiptum

Olympic Champion Eliud Kipchoge on Monday, February 12, joined thousands of Kenyans and the world in mourning late marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum.

Taking to his official social media pages, the marathoner noted that he was saddened by Kelvin’s death, holding that he was a young athlete with a whole life ahead of him.

Kipchoge also used the opportunity to commiserate and encourage late Kiptum’s young family as he prayed that God guide them during this trying time.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of the Marathon World record holder and rising star Kelvin Kiptum. An athlete who had a whole life ahead of him to achieve incredible greatness. I offer my deepest condolences to his young family. May God comfort you during this trying time.” He wrote.

Eliud Kipchoge’s condolence message came just hours following Kiptum’s sudden demise.

As earlier reported by a cross-section of the Kenyan and world media, Kelvin Kiptum and his coach Gervais Hakizimana died on the night of Sunday, February 11, following a grisly road accident outside the Rift Valley town of Eldoret.

Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge confirmed the deaths.

Kenyans were eager to see who would come out to mourn the athlete with many really hunting for Eliud Kipchoge’s condolence message.

Well, Kipchoge did his part by mourning the late Kelvin online but his action angered Kenyans.

Many netizens dragged Kipchoge online with quite a number calling him out for being a hypocrite.

Thousands of Kenyans even claimed he may be behind the death since he had earlier sent out jealous vibes.

Kenyans wondered why he was quick to condole the late athlete but could not celebrate him online when he broke the world record.
