According to the producer, people like DJ Sadiq, DJ Mo and others of their ilk launched deejaying units which had the final say on which gospel songs would play on their shows aired on different national TV stations.
It was at that juncture that certain artistes such as Willy Paul, Jimmy Gait and Bahati decided to switch things up a bit and watered down their content to please the ears of major industry players namely, System Unit, The Stomp Crew, Kubamba Crew, Groove among others.
”The gospel music industry was doing fine, in fact it was the leading in the country but these cartels killed it.” Dr Eddie said.
“They formed units and artistes had to release mediocre music to please the players so that they could get sizeable airplay on local media. Many artistes went commercial and that marked the beginning of the fall of a one time successful industry.” He added.
