Frank Lampard Names 2 Coaches That Former Chelsea Owner Abramovich Shouldn’t Have Sacked
Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend who played and managed the club. The former Chelsea man had something to say about the former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s hiring and firing policy which somewhat brought the club success. Still, Lampard thinks the former owner could have done some things differently.
The Russian oligarch owned the club for 19 years after buying it from Ken Bates in 2003 before he was forced to sell it off to an American syndicate led by Todd Boehly. Abramovich accounts were frozen by United Kingdom government after he was linked to having a close association with the Russian government which invaded Ukraine and was forced to put all his properties in the UK on sale.

Under the American owners, the club’s destiny has taken a downward trend, and they are on course for a second possible midtable finish in their first 2 years of ownership.
According to the transfermarkt the syndicate has spent over £1 billion and signed 27 players, including £100million plus British record signings, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo who is the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Frank Lampard played at the club for 13 years and 11 years were under the Russian billionaire Abramovich and had many managers, including Jose Mourinho and Roberto Di Mateo who won the first Champions League title for the Blues in 2012.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast the Blues legend said he wished some things had been done differently by Abramovich, particularly regarding the top managers. “I don’t know how much [things would have differed], if [Abramovich] stuck with Jose [Mourinho] through that [bad] patch and he’d stayed on.” “I know Jose’s history now looks like he moves on after a few years anyway, then Carlo [Ancelotti] left after two years -top managers.”
Chelsea’s all-time top scorer was also a victim of the hiring and firing policy at Stamford Bridge when he took over the club in July 2019 succeeding Italian manager Maurizio Sarri until his sacking in January 2021 after a poor run of results.
