Ferdinand Omanyala is a Kenyan 100m sprinter who was born on January 2nd, 1996 and participates in 60m, 100m, and 200m sprints. Omanyala who turned 28 years old is poised for massive success in his athletics career. He is the fastest man in Africa and 9th in the world. The sportsman studied his high school education at Friends School Kamusinga in Bungoma County where he played Rugby.

After high school, he joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) where he switched to Athletics since he was a rugby player during his high school time. Omanyala is a student in Department of Biological and Physical Sciences.

While speaking to Daily Nation Omanyala said, “Rugby was my first love. I was a winger at Friends School Kamusinga before taking up athletics at the University of Nairobi under the guidance of my coach Duncan Oyiemba.”

MONEY PRIZES

So far in his career, he has bagged three gold medals and several personal achievements as well as prize money for his heroics. In the Kip Keino Classic, Omanyala took home $3,000 (Ksh. 486,000 in the current Shilling’s exchange rate.

As a gold medal winner in the Commonwealth games, Omanyala took home $70,000 (Ksh 11.3 million) as per The Scotsman. He also got an extra Ksh. 1 million from the Kenyan government. Omanyala also received millions in other international races.

Apart from Prize Money, Omanyala has bagged himself several deals to increase his net worth as well the number of properties he owns by his name.

BRAND ENDORSEMENTS

The Kenyan sprinter has bagged several brand endorsement deals since his rise to fame. In January 2022, Omanyala signed a multi-million deal with the German multinational corporation Adidas in January 2022. The Adidas contract covers everything from his kitting to traveling and bonuses for all future wins.

He also bagged a Brand ambassadorial role with one of betting firm in Kenya known as OdiBets. In December 2023, Omanyala also partnered with VISA Card in anticipation of upcoming Olympic games in Paris this year. Omanyala is now the official face of the new series OPPO smartphone OPPO Reno11 series, deal worth millions in Kenyan shillings.

After breaking the African 100 metres record at the Kip Keino Classic Tour at Kasarani in September 2021, Omanyala was awarded with a Toyota Harrier from OdiBets worth Ksh. 5 million.

CLOTHING BRAND

Omanyala has invested in the fashion industry through a clothing line managed by his wife Laventa Amutavi. In September 2021, he disclosed that Laventa manages the label under his name.

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT

The Kenyan sprinter has also invested in the lucrative real estate sector where he joined hands with Ask Homes to develop ‘The Hills’ development in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado county. Omanyala acknowledged that as a sprinter, he would retire early and as such, he needs diverse sources of income in his sunset years. Speaking to Daily Nation, Omanyala said, “I’m in a sport that doesn’t last forever, and it comes down to investments and making my first million I came into this project as an investor, it’s not yet over but we’re now up with it and I’m looking forward to a very great project.”
