Sven-Göran Eriksson: I Have Only One Year Left To Live

Former England national team head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and its terminal. Sven-Goran Eriksson also managed Manchester City between 2007 & 2008 and also Leicester City in the 2010/11 season.

The Swedish international told a Swedish P1 radio that he has “at best one year to live”. Back in February 2019, Sven-Goran Eriksson resigned as sporting director at Karlstad Fotboll amid serious concerns about his health.

While speaking to Karlstad’s website in 2019, Eriksson said: “I have chosen to limit my public assignments for the time being, due to health problems under investigation.”

Eriksson was hosted by Swedish radio station P1 yesterday Thursday, on 11th January 2024, where he opened up about his cancer diagnosis. He told P1 radio: “Everyone understands that I have an illness that is not good. Sven-Goran Eriksson added; “Everyone guesses it’s cancer and it is. But I have to fight as long as I can.”

When asked about the projection of the medical examination, Sven-Goran Eriksson said he has “maybe at best a year, at worst a little less, or at best maybe even longer”.
He added: “You can’t be sure. It is better not to think about it”.

“But you can trick your brain. See the positive in things, don’t wallow in adversity, because this is the biggest adversity, but make something good out of it.” he continued.

Sven-Goran Eriksson also revealed how he sought medical attention after he suddenly collapsed while going on a 5km run.

After consulting the doctors, he was told he had suffered a stroke and had incurable pancreatic cancer. He added: “They don’t know how long I had cancer, maybe a month or a year”.
