Benjamin Mendy To Sue Manchester City Over Unpaid Wages

Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages after being charged with various offences, his legal team argued

Former Manchester City and French left back Benjamin Mendy has taken legal action against his former club for over £10M  unpaid wages.

 

The Manchester based club stopped paying his wages when he was arrested, in August, 2021 with four charges of rape but he has since been cleared of the charges

Mendy was suspended by the club in August 2021 and did not play for the club again before leaving in June for Ligue 1 side L’Orient this year upon his contract expiry. Through his legal team, Mendy claims since September 2021 until the expiry of his contract, City did not pay him a single penny because they deemed him unavailable for work during his trial.

 

“Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offences all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an employment tribunal.”

Mendy was released on bail in January 2022 after being in custody for four months.The 29-year-old was found not guilty at Chester crown court in January 2023 of raping four women and sexually assaulting another.
