Ugandan Pupil Sustains Lifelong Injuries From Teacher’s Beating

A pupil is nursing wounds and long term complications after a teacher allegedly beat him at school.

 

Nsereko, a primary seven pupil in Kyaliwajjala, Wakiso District suffers from immerse pain and accuses his teacher, Mr. Robert of beating him up to a point of getting wounds on top of saying mean things and wishing him death. He got to a point of dodging classes in fear of the teacher harassing him again.

 

“Another teacher came in our dormitory and asked us what the problem was. When we told him about the beating, he promised to intervene but he didn’t. He failed to stop it,” Nsereko said.

 

The victim who is currently in crutches revealed that teacher continued beating him particularly in the back and on the head causing him life threatening injuries.

His mother, Nabwami Juliet, a casual worker visited the school and confronted the head teacher about his son’s situation but did not get the help she needed, thus going to the police to seek justice.

 

“I wanted to find out why he keeps taunting my son with mean words. When I asked what my son did to deserve all that, he just told me I was too poor and if I decided to take the case to police, I would never win it against him,” the teary mother revealed.

“They should beat him where necessary but I don’t know why they would inflict so much pain on him like it’s a prison,” she added.

 

The District Education Officer Wakiso District Fredrick Kiyinji Kinobe  in a phone interview revealed that his office with the help of the police sent out inspectors to look into the matter.
