Man Arrested For Luring Women On Facebook, Robbing Them At Knife Point
The Kampala Metropolitan Police CID together with KMP Wakiso and North have arrested a notorious thief over a series of knife point robberies against his female victims lured from social media.
Police findings indicate that the suspect identified as 28-year-old Steven Odongkara, a resident of Bulaga “B” village, Wakiso district started an online relationship with Jemima Namiiro 27, off Facebook.
The two decided to meet on 14th November, 2023 for a date at Kasasa Bulaga village and while escorting each other, Odongkara drew out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Namiiro on the right hand, fleeing the scene with her handbag.

Namiiro, a resident of Najjanankumbi reported the attack at police on the 22nd of that same month, citing that the bag that was stolen contained her cosmetics and cash amounting to Ksh8,300.
Ondongkara was tracked down by police and on December 27th, 2023 he was arrested and discovered with a knife upon search. He admitted to luring a number of girls off Facebook and robbing them of their belongings.

“We would like to recommend safety tips to keep in mind, when meeting someone online. It is good practice to meet at a public place with others around. It is also important to have a buddy system, when going on dates. Tell a friend, whom you are going out with, photos and contacts. Do not go on a first date, when you are not around people. Either meet at a bar or restaurant. Other advanced arrangements can only take place after, knowing each other, very well.” The Uganda Police spokesperson, SCP Enanga Fred said.
