Two Key Suspects Arrested For The Murder Of Ugandan Athlete Benjamin Kiplagat
The Kenyan Police yesterday (Monday, January 1) announced that they had in custody two people in connection to the brutal murder of popular Kenyan-born Ugandan athlete Kiplagat Benjamin.
The gruesome stabbing and murder happened on New Year’s Eve and according to the local police commander Okal Stephen, the two men in their 30s were arrested in the Rift Valley town of Eldoret and they are criminals who have been known for terrorizing the members of the public.
“We are in the advanced stage of the investigations and we will possibly be sending them to court,” Okal spoke to AFP.
Yesterday, police reported that the body of the 34-year-old runner was discovered in his car with a deep knife wound on his neck.
Police investigations revealed that Kiplagat had been attacked by two men after he reportedly hit their boda boda with his car.
Okal further revealed that the action may have triggered the two men to perform the violent act towards the athlete.
Upon arrest, a knife believed to have been used in the murder was discovered with one of the suspects.
Kiplagat’s came into the limelight in 2008 after he won the silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the World Junior Championships followed by the a bronze medal at the Africa Championships in 2012.
He also made it to the semifinals in the Olympics in London that happened in 2012 and in Rio in 2016.
