Liverpool Goes 3 points Clear On Top of Premier League After Defeating Newcastle United

The Reds starts the year with a huge victory at Anfield against the Magpies that puts them on top of the Premier League with 45 points.
The Reds who had a disappointing start to the match after Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out by VAR for offside in the 18th minute before Mohamed Salah’s penalty was saved four minutes later by Martin Dubravka.
Lewis Dunk’s 34th minute goal was also cancelled by VAR for offside.

The first half ended in a goalless draw before experiencing goals galore in the second half.
Mohamed Salah redeemed himself from the first half’s missed penalty when he scored 4 minutes after second half kicked off, 5 minutes later Sweden forward Alexandre Isak made it 1-1 in the 54th minute.

The game looked like it would end in a 1-1 draw before Curtis Jones gave Liverpool the 2-1 lead in the 74th minute, three minutes later Dutchman Cody Gakpo who was introduced in the 64th minute taking Darwin Nunez’s space gave the Reds 3-1 lead in the 77th minute before Sven Botman made it 3-2 four minutes later.
‘Egyptian King’ Mohamed Salah sealed the Liverpool’s New Year win with a beautiful penalty sending Martin Dubravka the wrong direction after he saved his first penalty in the match.
Salah’s tonight brace brought his goal tally to 14 goals in the Premier League after matchweek 20.
He is now joint top scorer with Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland who is out injured.
