Pupil Die By Suicide After Being Detained In School Over Fee Balance

Fear gripped residents of Mpigi district after a security guard at Buwungu UMEA Primary School identified a 25-year-old Abdul Khalid Olagut chopped a pupil into pieces.

The deceased identified as Rashid Ssekamatte was a son to the school head teacher Hajji Umar Ssekamatte.

It is said the deceased had gone for early morning prayers with his friends when Olagut called him.

“After prayers, he usually stays behind to teach his friends Arabic until class hours reach. That was when the Askari called him,” Twaha Karingi the chairperson Buwungu village said.

He also noted that the child going to the askari did not raise any alarm because the two were friends and usually talk.

According to the teachers, the child was reported missing when he didn’t turn up for breakfast like the rest of the pupils.

As they were still searching for him, they were alerted about a cryptic message by the school bursar from the askari telling them to check out the hen he had slaughtered from his room.

“They visited the room and found the place locked. They broke down the door and saw a pool of blood. He chopped him into pieces; the hands were off, the legs and every other part. He packed him in a sack,” a witness said.

The revelers believe Olagut acted out of drug influence considering that they discovered cocaine, marijuana and other hard drugs in his room.

“He was doing drugs at school and had been warned about it. They promised to sack him at the end of the year if nothing changed. I think it also triggered him,” Karungi said.

Parents together with school neighbors expressed their concern after incident thinking he might come back and attack other children.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter by calling anyone with details on where to find the suspect who is on the run to report his presence.
