Homabay Night Runners Seeking For Government Recognition
Homa Bay County is on the news headlines with a story cracking ribs of Kenyans both online and offline.
The county which has been associated with controversial night running, has members of the association seeking for recognition.
According to Mr Jack Songo from Homa Bay and a self proclaimed chair of Night Runners Association of Kenya, the dignitary members of the community want the Government to register them under the Department of Sports and Culture.
The registration of the Association they say will help them get embraced by the society as well as curb the major challenges they are facing.
“I am soon beginning the process of registration and want people to embrace us.”
They further stress on their importance in the society claiming that they are most likely to save in cases of night fire outbreaks which other members of the community may not be quick to notice since they are dead asleep.

“We are mostly active at night and are more likely to respond to fire outbreaks than anyone. When out, we can equally raise an alarm if we spot fire at night,”
Interestingly, they also urge the Government to consider vaccinating the animals they use to undertake their night running activities just as they consider other animals such as dogs.
“Government has been running programmes where it vaccinates animals from diseases like rabies. Our animals should also be considered in such programmes”
Some of the animals they reportedly use include Hyenas and Hippos
