Content creator Elsa Majimbo recently disclosed the complexities of her relationship with Kenya, shedding light on the challenges she faced growing up that led her to seek opportunities abroad.

In a TikTok video that quickly went viral, Majimbo expressed her decision to leave Kenya, citing the discrimination she endured due to her dark skin growing up.

“I faced a lot of it when I grew up… there were a lot of comments on ‘oh, you are so dark.’ When that started happening, I was like, I will never progress in this country with this kind of mentality,” she recounted.
The video prompted musician KRG the Don to take to Instagram, offering Majimbo five million dollars to renounce her Kenyan identity.
He criticized her stating, “She made small and silly money and thought Kenya as a country is a disgrace to her! Kenya is the best country in the entire world if you make the right moves.”
Majimbo defended her stance by highlighting the positive reception of her skin tone in the United States.

“In the US, everyone is like, ‘oh my God, look at your skin, it is so stunning, it looks like pearl, it’s shining.’ So why wouldn’t I not be paid in dollars?” She noted.
The revelation sparked a diverse range of reactions from netizens. Some empathized with Majimbo’s experience, acknowledging the existence of colorism in Kenya.

However, not everyone agreed with her some netizens expressed disbelief and disagreement with Majimbo’s sentiments.
