KNEC, Headteacher Opens Up On Controversial KCPE Results

Kenya National Examination Council has met controversy from angry Kenyans following an alleged KCPE 2023 errors in results of some subjects.

 

Kenyans on X raised the case on Friday evening after discovering some students received irrelevant marks in their KCPE exam results.

 

Brainstar School in Isiolo shared a post of exam results of it’s students on social media who are alleged to have scored 75% in Science.

On the post shared, 32 students scored 75% something which the school head Mr Peter Ochieng has revealed the true picture of the information.

Speaking to journalists, Mr Peter Ochieng on Saturday morning said his school had 47 candidates and not all scored 75% in Science.

 

He alleged only 26 students of 47 got 75% and not 32 according to what Kenyans shared on social media.

We only had 47 candidates who sat for the KCPE, however on the list we only have 26 candidates appearing. Some students got below 75.” he revealed.

 

Concerning the high score, Mr Ochieng said most students in Isiolo County scored between 75% to 76% in Science because the paper was easy.

 

Science paper was easy for the students. If you go to the most schools in Isiolo most students have gotten between 76 and 75 marks” he added.

 

Beside the case of Brainstar School, all students in St Matthews Maraba scored above 83% in Social Studies and CRE.

The School head has however not spoken over the issue but KNEC has admitted the error that occurred in some subjects and it’s looking into the matter for rectifications.

As it looks into the matter, it’s alleged there was also grading errors where some students who scored 73% were awarded a B+ as others who got 75% receiving a B.

 

In Kiswahili language, some received tablation errors where Kiswahili was replaced with KSL- Kenya Sign Languages in place of Kisw to mean Kiswahili.

 

On the day of KCPE exam results release, there emerged a delay in mobile reception of results where education CS Ezekiel Machogu claimed the slow sent of results was not the problem of KNEC but for SMS providers.
