15 People Perish In Ghastly Accident
Fifteen people were reported dead on spot in two different accidents that happened over the weekend along Jinja – Iganga highway.
The first accident happened at Musita, Mayuge District when a taxi registration number UBE 932H full of passengers from Kampala to Iganga rammed into a trailer RL1055/RAC603Q which had jammed at the roadside because of a mechanical condition.
A total of 9 people including the taxi driver Isabirye Peter 61, Naisanga Racheal, Nangobi Fidha 35 together with her two year old baby, Sseruwagi Lukman, young musician Alaisa,Tenywa Fred, Opio Moses 37 and Waiswa Alex 39. Six people were left fighting for their lives after sustaining serious injuries.
Busoga East Nandawula Diana revealed that the major cause of the accident was over speeding by the taxi driver who did not notice the faulty trailer parked on the roadside.
The second accident happened in Namasoga at 5 PM involving three cars; a taxi registration number UAV 659L, a Fuso carrying sand UBH 032W and a Sienta UBJ 679Y. Six people died on the spot.
Hakim Wakyambe, the chairperson of the taxi drivers’ association sent out his condolences to the bereaved families and cautioned drivers to always be careful on the road especially in this festive season.
