A woman was sent to Luzira Maximum prison for trespassing after her husband sold their matrimonial home without her knowledge

Ssekalega Gerald is said to have sold his wife Namutebi Prossy with their two children in the house for Ugsh. 117 million to Bitwale Robert on October 1, 2019. The house located in Masanafu, Bukulugi zone has 18 rentals.

The agreement and transfer were signed on October 15, 2019, and Ssekalega asked the new owner to retain one rental house for his wife and children promising to pay ugsh. 100,000 every month as he prepares to relocate them.

In 2021, Namutebi allegedly started disrespecting other tenants forcing Bitwale to ask Ssekalega to immediately move her away from his property.

Namutebi swore not to vacate the premises stating that her husband did not have the authority to sell without her knowledge. This prompted the new owner to drag her to the authorities.

Bitwale first reported the matter to CPS in Kampala that Namutebi was charged with trespass under file number CRB:2103/2023.

She was then arraigned before Grade One magistrate, Judge Byarugaba Adams in Natete Court. She was later remanded in Luzira prison due to the absence of the defense lawyer.

Upon the ruling, Namutebi’s friends and family members broke down and pleaded with the different organizations to help fight and defend the rights of their loved one.

Nampeera Harriet, one of the couple’s daughters revealed that their father abandoned them in the house for 6 years and when he returned, he told them how he had sold the house. He left never to be seen again by his family.
